Allen Road Elementary School's Winter Wonderland takes visitors on a journey around the globe Allen Road Elementary School's Winter Wonderland takes visitors on a journey around the globe: This year's annual PTO Winter Wonderland event at Allen Road Elementary School had a unique twist for visitors. In addition to the usual Holiday Shoppe where students can buy presents for their parents, take part in a tree lighting ceremony, create craft projects and visit with Santa, this year visitors had the opportunity to celebrate the various cultures of their classmates. With the largest population of English Language Learners in any of the district's elementary schools, Allen Road's parents, students and staff, decided to celebrate their diversity at the annual PTO event. Roxboro Road Elementary Soup-er Bowl of Caring Roxboro Road Elementary Soup-er Bowl of Caring: As a PBIS School, Roxboro Road Elementary participated in this year’s Salvation Army Food Drive.  We were able to fill more than 3 barrels with canned and other non-perishable food items.  This year we kicked of “Soup-er Bowl” with a friendly competition between the three classroom hallways. Trustworthy Trail was the winning hallway this year, earning the 1 st annual “Soup-er Bowl Trophy”, by filling almost 2 barrels with food!  In conjunction with the food drive each student also decorated brown paper bags for the Salvation Army Christmas Distribution.  The bags will be used for stocking stuffer items on Distribution Day. #TrustworthyTrailforthewin #RoxboroElGivesBack
Smart Schools Bond Act Notice of Intent to Amend Smart Schools Plan – School Connectivity Smart Schools Bond Act Notice of Intent to Amend Smart Schools Plan – School Connectivity: The original plan for wiring and adding wireless connectivity to Cicero North Syracuse High School, North Syracuse Junior High School, and Main Street was projected to cost $3,094,788.00. Materials and labor came in lower with the competitive bidding process and the project finished with a total of $2,778,223.06. Therefore, we are notifying the citizens of the North Syracuse Central School District of our intent to amend the original plan and to use the balance of $316,564.94 on classroom technology. Over the last few years the District has been replacing the aging Smart Boards and Projectors with ViewSonic interactive boards. District forms committee to study swimming pool feasibility, seeks committee members District forms committee to study swimming pool feasibility, seeks committee members: May 8, 2018 - Please be advised that the committee will not be meeting on May 8 as their work has been completed. The committe will present to the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education at a special meeting on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m.   At their November 20, 2017 meeting, the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education passed a resolution establishing a Swimming Pool Advisory Committee. The North Syracuse Central School District has not formally studied the possibility of a pool in over 20 years. C-NS Marching Band wins National Championship C-NS Marching Band wins National Championship: On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Marching Band competed in the US Bands A Class National Championships in Allentown, PA. Over 40 bands competed throughout the day. The Northstars won the Class V National Championship as well as a caption award for best visual in Class V. C-NS seniors named Commended Students C-NS seniors named Commended Students: Congratulations to Cicero-North Syracuse High School seniors Joshua Pickard and Bruce Hepel for being named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). C-NS Business Students Raise Money for Childhood Cancer Awareness C-NS Business Students Raise Money for Childhood Cancer Awareness: Cicero-North Syracuse High School students in Block 1 Word 1 & Google Docs classes used skills they are learning in class to help raise money for a good cause. During the month of September, they created flyers advertising childhood cancer awareness, and raised money by holding a hat day, and selling gold wristbands.  Almost $200 was raised and donated to the Pediatric Cancer Unit at Golisano Children’s Hospital.  This month Toni Gary and Kaitlyn Sperduti from the hospital came to C-NS to accept the check and thank the students for their work.
Tree from Cicero-North Syracuse High School is Syracuse City's Christmas Tree Tree from Cicero-North Syracuse High School is Syracuse City's Christmas Tree: On Friday, November 3, work crews from the City of Syracuse  were at Cicero-North Syracuse High School to cut down a 65 ft. Norway Spruce tree, which the district donated to the city for their annual Christmas Tree. The tree was then transported to Clinton Square by JPW Erectors, which donated their services. The tree was placed at Clinton Square and will be lit during at city's ceremony on Friday, November 24.

C-NS students participate in Steamboat Challenge C-NS students participate in Steamboat Challenge: On Saturday October 14, twenty-six of Mrs. Madigan’s AP Physics students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School participated in the Steamboat challenge at the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) in downtown Syracuse. The students had to design and build a heat engine to power a small boat down a water raceway. Students were scored on time and engineering process. All of the boats were successful in achieving propulsion, and three of the six finalist teams were from C-NS. Justin Stokes placed second in the high school division, and Joshua and Michael Middleton received commendation for their design and process. Congratulations to all the participants!
K-4 students will receive standards-based report card K-4 students will receive standards-based report card: The North Syracuse Central School District is pleased to report that all students in grades K-4 will receive a standards-based report card. This standards-based approach will give more accurate, specific feedback about a student’s progress toward the skills and understanding of each standard in a subject area. This is important because it better identifies where a student is excelling in a subject, as well as where he/she might need additional assistance. Each year in the U.S. on average, influenza and its related complications result in approximately 226,000 hospitalizations and over 23,600 deaths. Combined with pneumonia, influenza is the nation's eighth leading cause of death. You can help avoid getting and spreading influenza by getting vaccinated each year. Free After-school Tutoring for Eligible Native American Students Free After-school Tutoring for Eligible Native American Students: Through its Native American Grant Program, the North Syracuse Central School District is making available free tutoring services to Native American students attending school within the district who have filed the appropriate 506 eligibility certification forms. Tutoring, provided by certified teachers, will be provided at district schools or local libraries for up to two (2) hours per week. District receives District receives "Be the Change for Kids" award for Exploring Computer Science at Gillette Road Middle School: Congratulations to Gillette Road Middle School's successful "Exploring Computer Science" program, for recently being recognized be the New York State School Boards Association with a 2017 Be the Change for Kids Innovation Award! Students and staff involved with the program traveled to Albany on September 27, along with North Syracuse Central School District Superintendent of Schools Annette Speach and Board of Education member Erin McDonald, to be recognized and receive the award's $5,000 check! District voters approve capital project referendum District voters approve capital project referendum: North Syracuse Central School District voters have approved the district’s proposed capital project referendum. 881 votes were cast, with the final tally being 545 yes votes and 336 no votes on a building project for roof replacements at Allen Road Elementary School, KWS Bear Road Elementary School, Gillette Road Middle School, North Syracuse Junior High School and Cicero-North Syracuse High School and the replacement of six tennis courts at the North Syracuse Junior High School. Superintendent of Schools, Annette Speach said, “Many thanks to all of our community members who came out to vote. We are glad to be able to move forward with these roof replacements.
