Superintendent Search Superintendent Search: The North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education has accepted the retirement letter for Supintendent of Schools Daniel D. Bowles. His last day with the district will be August 27, 2024. The Board has engaged OCM BOCES District Superintendent Matthew L. Cook, Ed.D. to assist and advise in the process of selecting a new superintendent. As part of his official duties, Dr. Cook routinely works with Boards of Education to facilitate new superintendent searches. In 2023, Cook facilitated two successful searches in DeRuyter and Marcellus. North Syracuse Central School District Board President announces Superintendent of Schools’ retirement North Syracuse Central School District Board President announces Superintendent of Schools’ retirement: June 18, 2024: North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education President Paul Farfaglia announced today that Superintendent of Schools Daniel D. Bowles will be retiring effective August 27, 2024. The Board of Education accepted the superintendent’s retirement letter at its June 17 meeting.  Superintendent Bowles announced his plans to district staff in an email saying “The past five years have been some of the best of my life. They have also been some of the most challenging as we worked together to navigate a global pandemic and the lasting repercussions we never could have anticipated. Annual graduation walk at elementary schools brings smiles Annual graduation walk at elementary schools brings smiles: On Thursday, June 6, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Class of 2024 returned to their elementary schools to revisit the places where their educational careers began. Each elementary school has their own traditions for celebrating graduates and having younger students get a glimpse of their future. At some schools, grads march through the hallways while being cheered on by their former teachers and the district's youngest students. CNS staff accompany the students and typically work with elementary staff to get a group picture at each elementary school. The signs were put up after school on May 1 with the help of dedicated families, adding a vibrant touch as well as encouragement to the school’s track. Gillette’s PTMC was created during the 2022-23 school year by fifth-grade teacher Melanie Hurley and one of the school’s art teachers, Ms. Warner Varno. The club was born from a simple yet powerful idea. For many kids, summertime means food, friends and fun. For families who count on school breakfast and lunch, however, the summer months can be stressful and family food budgets have to be stretched even further. The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Summer Food Service Program helps fill the hunger gap. Free summer meals, funded by the USDA, are available to kids and teens ages 18 and younger at Roxboro Road Middle School in Syracuse, NY. This is an open site therefore free meals are available to all children ages 18 and under. This site does not require families to provide income information, registration, or other paperwork. Their adventure kicked off with a scenic ferry ride across the majestic St. Lawrence River, leading them into the heart of Québec City. This visit provided a comprehensive look into the world of broadcast journalism, offering students valuable insights and firsthand experiences. The day began with an extensive tour of the facility, led by executive producer Tim Fox. The tour gave students an inside look at the digital age of news production with reporters typing up news stories, editing footage and collaborating with the graphics team to prepare content for public broadcast. Community Forum on Race and Equity at CNS on June 13 Community Forum on Race and Equity at CNS on June 13: The North Syracuse Central School District is inviting participants to its first Community Forum on Race and Equity. The event is intended for current CNS juniors and seniors as well as NSCSD alumni, families, caregivers and community members to share their experiences and concerns on the topics of race and equity within the district. The forum is being run and facilitated by trained professionals with the Center for Dialogue and Action at InterFaith Works of Central New York. NSCSD voters approve proposed budget NSCSD voters approve proposed budget: North Syracuse Central School District voters have agreed to the district’s proposed 2024-2025 school year budget with a 65,2 percent approval. A total of 1,846 votes were cast, with the final tally being 1,204 yes votes and 642 no votes on the $212,196,591 proposal. A bus proposition for $2,152,433 also passed with 1,268 yes votes and 579 no votes for a 68.7 percent approval. Voters also authorized the district’s use of capital reserve/debt service funds for ongoing construction projects with a 69.3 percent approval (1,271 yes votes/564 no votes).
