North Syracuse Central School District Board President announces Superintendent of Schools’ retirement

June 18, 2024: North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education President Paul Farfaglia announced today that Superintendent of Schools Daniel D. Bowles will be retiring effective August 27, 2024. The Board of Education accepted the superintendent’s retirement letter at its June 17 meeting.

Superintendent Bowles announced his plans to district staff in an email saying “The past five years have been some of the best of my life. They have also been some of the most challenging as we worked together to navigate a global pandemic and the lasting repercussions we never could have anticipated. Despite the challenges though, we came together as a district and community and created a Strategic Plan that I truly believe moves the school community forward.”

The Board of Education will meet in the next few weeks to discuss the search for a new superintendent. Board President Farfaglia said, “It is with tremendous gratitude and sadness that we announce we have received the resignation of Superintendent Bowles. He has been an incredible champion for our students and this entire community. He and his leadership will be sorely missed. The Board will be meeting soon to discuss our next steps in finding the right replacement for our district.”

Dan Bowles has served as superintendent of schools for the North Syracuse Central School District since July of 2019. Before serving in the district’s highest leadership role, Mr. Bowles served as the district’s Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. Bowles has dedicated more than 25 years of his educational career to North Syracuse students, starting in the district as a school counselor at Cicero-North Syracuse High School in 1997 and staying through 1999. He began working as a school district administrator in 1999, first serving as an associate principal at Gillette Road Middle School, then a principal at Roxboro Road Elementary School in 2001 and moving into the central office role of Director of Elementary Education in 2008.

Board President Farfaglia said of Bowles’ tenure, “Dan is a true member of the North Syracuse Central School District community and has been a tremendous leader in his various roles. The knowledge and understanding he has gained over almost 25 years of service is something that will be difficult to replace. On behalf of the Board, our students and this great community, we offer our thanks to Dan for his service and dedication to our schools, staff and students.”
