Lakeshore Road Elementary School renovation project faces delays, may push reopening date

The renovation of Lakeshore Road Elementary School may take longer than originally planned. The North Syracuse Central School District’s initial goal was to complete the work and reopen the school before the start of the 2025-26 school year.

“It appears increasingly likely that construction at Lakeshore will not be completed in time for the start of the next school year. While the team is working diligently to adhere to the original timeline, large-scale construction projects sometimes encounter unforeseen delays,” said Interim Superintendent Michael Schiedo. “In this case, the project received approval from the New York State Education Department several months later than expected. Additionally, lingering supply chain issues have further delayed progress.”

There is a chance construction may be completed by Dec. 2025, but district leaders are concerned that transitioning staff and students mid-year could disrupt the educational process.

“While a mid-year move is not entirely off the table, we need feedback from staff and parents to assess the potential impact and feasibility. We will collect stakeholder input in the near future as the construction timeline is solidified. Your feedback will be invaluable as we determine the best course of action for our school community,” said Schiedo. “I understand this may be disappointing, but please know we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition back to our newly renovated school building when the time comes. We deeply appreciate your patience and support as we navigate this situation.”

If you have questions or concerns about this, please reach out to the superintendent’s office at 315/218-2150.
