District breaks ground on new community pool at CNS

On October 30, the North Syracuse Central School District celebrated the ceremonial groundbreaking of our much-anticipated new community pool, marking the official start of construction. This pool is a key part of the district's capital improvement plan, which voters approved in December 2021, and it represents a significant step forward in providing expanded athletic and wellness opportunities for both our students and the wider community.

The event marked an exciting moment as the first shovels of dirt were turned by North Syracuse Central School District (NSCSD) Board of Education President Michael A. Mirizio, Assemblyman Al Stirpe, and swim coaches Paul Gill and Brad Raineri—both longtime advocates for this project. Their enthusiasm, alongside Assemblyman Stirpe’s strong support and advocacy for additional funding, has been instrumental in bringing this state-of-the-art aquatics facility to life.

Once completed, the pool will become a dedicated space for student aquatics programming and a local venue where our athletes can train and compete. The design includes separate entrances for community members to ensure a safe and secure environment for students. This new facility will offer unparalleled opportunities for swimming activities across all age groups, and we’re eager to welcome the community when it opens in fall 2026.

In addition to the pool, other major renovations are underway at the high school, including updates to the gymnasium, locker rooms, auditorium and HVAC systems. The gymnasium is nearing completion, and we look forward to welcoming students onto the new gym floor for basketball and other events starting this December.
