District teachers awarded NSEF grants to enhance programming District teachers awarded NSEF grants to enhance programming: Thirteen North Syracuse Central School District teachers were recently recognized for receiving grants from the North Syracuse Education Foundation (NSEF) in their 2019 Grant Award’s Program. NSEF resources support quality education through creative opportunities, and innovative/imaginative approaches. Since 2003, NSEF has provided more than $100,000 in grant money for student programming through generous contributions from the community. The mission of the Foundation is to sponsor activities and projects intended to enhance the education and cultural enrichment of the students of the North Syracuse Central School District. District students recognized by Optimist Club of C-NS District students recognized by Optimist Club of C-NS: Congratulations to the many students throughout the North Syracuse Central School District recently recognized by the Optimist Club of Cicero-North Syracuse. The students were recognized at a public ceremony at Gillette Road Middle School on Monday, April 8. Certificates were presented to each student for "upholding the dignity of youth, for showing sincere devotion to the welfare of others, and for generous and unselfish contributions to society."  Congratulations to these amazing young people!  
C-NS Honor Choir Performs at Carnegie Hall C-NS Honor Choir Performs at Carnegie Hall: Sixteen students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School were selected to perform with the National Youth Choir at Carnegie Hall on April 7, 2019. Over 300 students from as far away as Puerto Rico, Canada, and California all gathered in New York City to work under the direction of internationally recognized choral conductor Dr. Eph Ehly. The students prepared six choral selections for performance. While in New York, C-NS students also attended the Broadway production of ‘Mean Girls’; toured midtown Manhattan to see such sights as Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Plaza, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Grand Central Station, the New York Public Library, and the Macy’s Flower Festival; and visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Allen Road Elementary School Celebrates Literacy! Allen Road Elementary School Celebrates Literacy!: Students, staff and families at Allen Road Elementary School recently spent an evening together celebrating reading and writing at their school's Literacy Night. The March 27 event was the culmination of the school's month of PARP (Parents as Reading Partners) activities. The theme for this year’s PARP month and Literacy Night was ‘Telling Tales’ – with a focus on Tall Tales, Fairy Tales, and Folk Tales. Throughout the month, students enjoyed quality literacy experiences with an adult or adults and then created a final project based on their encounters. C-NS Performance Engineering Team returns from National Competition C-NS Performance Engineering Team returns from National Competition: The Cicero-North Syracuse High School Performance Engineering Team has returned from this year's Shell Eco-marathon in Sonoma California. The group, led by instructor Marty Miner, set out earlier this year to build two cars and race them in the National Competition. Thanks to successful trials, lots of hard work and donations from many local businesses, the teams made it to the Eco-marathon. Each team successfully completed grueling technical inspections and made it onto the track. The Prototype electric vehicle completed four qualifying runs and placed 9th overall out of the 22 teams entered in that class. The 10 year-old hydrogen fuel cell in the urban concept vehicle was not up for the challenge this year and would not allow the team to complete a qualifying run.   Everyone ...
NYS Seal of Biliteracy students from C-NS recognized at Board Meeting NYS Seal of Biliteracy students from C-NS recognized at Board Meeting: Twenty-one Cicero-North Syracuse High School students recently were notified that they had met the rigourous requirements necessary to earn Seals of Biliteracy on their high school diplomas. On Tuesday, April 9, the students spent the day at Onondaga Community College giving oral presentations to demonstrate their language proficiency to a panel of judges. Prior to the presentations, students were also required to prepare extensive projects.  The students were recognized and honored at the North Syracuse Central School District's June 3 Board of Education meeting.  The students have been led in their efforts by C-NS Language teachers Mary Murdoch, Jane Murlin and Heather Puchta.  Teacher Mary Murdoch said, "Earning a New York Seal of Biliteracy is a ...
C-NS students learn importance of voting C-NS students learn importance of voting: By C-NS student Steven Baker -  On Thursday March 14, a group of students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School were able to go to a presentation on the importance of voting. The presentation was given by Dustin Czarny in the Large Group Instruction Room where he gave a slideshow presentation.  Czarny spoke to students about the importance of voting and discussed how it is the most effective way for young people to communicate with government. He explained New York State's unique voting system and the fact that if the two political parties do not agree on something, they may take it to court and have a judge tell them what to do. Roxboro Road Middle School students participate in CNY Science and Engineering Fair Roxboro Road Middle School students participate in CNY Science and Engineering Fair: On Sunday, March 31, five students from Roxboro Middle School participated in the CNY Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by the Museam of Science and Technology (MOST) in Syracuse. The MOST hosts its annual Central New York Science & Engineering Fair every March at the SRC Arena on the Onondaga Community College campus. Community invited to special free showing of Community invited to special free showing of "ScreenAgers" on April 4: The North Syracuse and Liverpool Central School District communities are invited to a special free screening of  SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in The Digital Age . SCREENAGERS is the first feature documentary to explore the impact of screen technology on kids and offer parents and families proven solutions that work. The film is not available in theaters. It can only be screened as a community in certain locations.  The special screening at Cicero-North Syracuse High School will take place on Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Bowles as Superintendent of Schools: It is with great pride and excitement that the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education announces its selection of Daniel D. Bowles, the current associate superintendent for teaching and learning, as the district’s new superintendent of schools. The Board of Education will formally approve Mr. Bowles’ appointment at its meeting on Monday, April 1. C-NS Students learn from Assemblyman Stirpe C-NS Students learn from Assemblyman Stirpe: New York Assemblyman Al Stirpe recently visited Cicero-North Syracuse High School to discuss current topics that influence students, as well as topics surrounding his career. Assemblyman Stirpe represents the 127th District, which resides over the towns of Cicero, Clay, Manlius, Pompey, and Tully. He has been working in that position since his re-election in 2012. To open the talk, Mr. Stripe first explained some of the work he does as an assemblyman, which includes passing the state budget, legislative work, and community aid. Families invited to April 9 Families invited to April 9 "Credit-Ability: Build a Strong Credit History" seminar: Families in the North Syracuse Central School District are invited to a special seminar, "Credit-Ability: Build a Strong Credit History," on Tuesday, April 9. The seminar will take place at Roxboro Road Middle School (300 Bernard Street) in Mattydale at 7:00 p.m.  As part of a unique partnership with CORE Federal Credit Union, Cicero-North Syracuse High School students periodically hold seminars for their peers on a variety of topics relating to personal finance, in addition to mentoring younger students. Two years ago, the partnership expanded and students began offering seminars for adults in the community. Long Range Plan will serve as a roadmap for 2019-2020 school budget Long Range Plan will serve as a roadmap for 2019-2020 school budget: On Monday, March 4, North Syracuse Central School District Superintendent of Schools Annette Speach, presented a Long Range Plan to the District's Board of Education. The plan ties together the District's Goals , Mission and Vision2020 . Those three documents have been developed collaboratively with students, staff and community members over the past several years. Roxboro Road Middle School celebrates National Happiness Day Roxboro Road Middle School celebrates National Happiness Day: Students and staff at Roxboro Road Middle School spent the day on March 20, National Happiness Day, spreading kindness and posting their good intentions on their school's first ever Happiness Wall. Ms Hartmann's FCCLA group led the project as part of Live Happy's campaign to spread kindness. Group members encouraged their peers and teachers to post and share how they will spread happiness to others while celebrating the happiness movement.  The campaign is in honor of the U.N.-sanctioned International Day of Happiness to inspire people to make the world a happier place. C-NS Artist recognized by multiple outlets C-NS Artist recognized by multiple outlets: Congratulation to Cicero-North Syracuse High School's Shannon Kirkpatrick, who was recognized at the CNY Young Amazing Awards on March 7. She also won the  Everson Museum of Art Award for Fine Arts. Shannon most recently created a 507 square foot mural on the side of a building within our community. She is also a CNY Scholastic Gold Key Award winner and currently some of her work is being displayed at Onondaga Community College. Congratulations on all your accomplishments!

EEP at Main Street now accepting registration for summer and next fall programs EEP at Main Street now accepting registration for summer and next fall programs: The North Syracuse Central School District is accepting registrations for its Early Education Pre-K Program at Main Street School for the 2019 summer program (July 3 through August 13) and for the 2019-2020 school year . Preschool Education Programs at Main Street School are offered for children ages 3 and 4 years old. In order to enroll your child in a FULL-day program for the 2019-2020 school year, he/she must be 3 years old by 9/1/19.
