Mask Requirement Continues at Athletic Events Mask Requirement Continues at Athletic Events: The following message from the North Syracuse Central School District Athletic Department is being shared with NSCSD Families and Staff: The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued updated guidance on April 27, specific to mask wearing recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals. While the guidance allows for some lessened requirements, the CDC still recommends that fully vaccinated people wear a mask when attending sporting events or in crowded spaces. The North Syracuse Central School District continues to require spectators at NSCSD events to wear masks. Spectators refusing to wear masks will not be given access to athletic events. Our goal as an athletic department has not changed. We must remain diligent in our efforts to lower the county-wide transmission rate. ...

Nursing and health office staff have worked tirelessly to care for sick students and staff, assist with contact tracing, administer COVID testing within buildings and for student athletes, and serve as a resource for students staff and families. May Is Mental Health Month May Is Mental Health Month: The North Syracuse Central School District celebrating National Mental Health Awareness Month! The pandemic has taught us many things - chief among them is that our mental well being really matters. Stories Come to Life During Cicero Elementary School's PARP Celebration Stories Come to Life During Cicero Elementary School's PARP Celebration: Students at Cicero Elementary School were among the thousands of elementary students across the country to celebrate PARP, or “Pick a Reading Partner” throughout the month of March. PARP is a New York State PTA (Parent Teacher Association) program that asks a partner (parent, grandparent, babysitter, older sibling, cousin, friend, etc.) to read with a child for at least 20 minutes daily, stressing the fact that reading can be fun as well as informative. Each year, schools throughout the NSCSD come up with creative themes for PARP month and devise fun ways to participate. District Will Reallocate Food Service Resources with Expanded In-Person Instruction District Will Reallocate Food Service Resources with Expanded In-Person Instruction: As students in the North Syracuse Central School District return to school for additional in-person instruction on a staggered schedule this month, the District will reallocate its food service resources to meet the changing needs. Families of students continuing to learn remotely will still be able to pick up meals in the morning or afternoon (each Monday through Wednesday) depending on their preference. Additionally, families can take meals for up to five days at a time. With Grade K-4 students returning 5-days/week on April 12, and grade 5-12 students returning 4-days/week on April 19, the NSCSD’s new schedule for meal pickup (as of April 12) for remote students will be: Monday – Evening pickup (4:30 to 5:45 p.m.) at Cicero-North Syracuse High School (6002 ...
Roxboro Road Middle School Students and Staff Support St. Baldrick's Roxboro Road Middle School Students and Staff Support St. Baldrick's: As part of their Kindness Month Campaign, students and staff at Roxboro Road Middle School used their final school day of the month to celebrate with a shave! Throughout the month, Team RRMS raised money for St. Baldrick's and the fight against pediatric cancer. More than $2,000 was raised and the students and staff marked the accomplishment by shaving their heads in front of the school's morning announcement cameras. March is Kindness Month at Roxboro Road Middle School March is Kindness Month at Roxboro Road Middle School: Students and staff at Roxboro Road Middle School are doing their best to turn the Month of March into a big celebration of kindness! Melissa Potratz, a 7th grade teacher at Rox recently reached out and shared the school's " Kindness Calendar " on behalf of herself, Chris Chirinos and the school's Student Council and Positivity Project. Throughout the month, the school community is invited to take part in the many themed days such as the Ice Cream Social (distance) which is pictured, Lucky Charm and Rainbow Days. Event organizers are also hoping to wrap the entire building with a kindness chain, made of links added each time someone performs an act of kindness. District Asking K-4 Families to Respond to Return to In-Person Learning Survey by March 12 District Asking K-4 Families to Respond to Return to In-Person Learning Survey by March 12: On Thursday, March 4, 2021 our County Executive and County Commissioner of Health announced new guidance for schools.  These guidelines include reducing social distancing from 6 feet to 3 feet, polycarbonate "plexiglass" barriers for all students and a continued mask mandate for students and staff.  The reduction of social distancing guidelines will likely allow the NSCSD to expand our "in-person" instruction for K-4 students.  We are working through the many logistics and challenges associated with returning more students to our schools.  These include staffing adjustments, rewriting master schedules, increased furniture needs, rerouting bus runs, updating safety protocols, preparing for increased student drop-off, etc.  We anticipate being ...
Substitute Food Service Workers Needed Substitute Food Service Workers Needed: The North Syracuse Central School District’s food service department is looking to hire substitute food service helpers in anticipation of increasing in-person instruction. Part-time positions are available with flexible hours. March 1 Begins Additional Instructional Day for CNS and NSJH Hybrid Students March 1 Begins Additional Instructional Day for CNS and NSJH Hybrid Students: Beginning March 1, Cicero-North Syracuse High School and North Syracuse Junior High School students that are currently enrolled in their school’s hybrid Instruction model will have an additional day of in-person instruction. Students that currently attend school on Monday or Tuesday will attend both Monday AND Tuesday. Students that currently attend school on Thursday or Friday will attend both Thursday AND Friday. Transportation schedules remain the same with bus pick-up and drop-off times unchanged. Families of students that are currently fully remote are not impacted by this change. District Seeking Input Regarding Potential Instructional Model Changes by March 3 District Seeking Input Regarding Potential Instructional Model Changes by March 3: As infection rates decline and the state health department considers relaxing restrictions around COVID-19, the North Syracuse Central School District (NSCSD) is working to determine the feasibility of adding in-person instructional days for students. The District now has the ability to allow comments from the audience. The meeting will allow up to 10 speakers , who must  pre-register to speak during Comments from the Audience period.   Individuals who wish to speak must contact the District Clerk at cgibson@nscsd.org   to sign-up to speak no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, February 26th .  Any requests received after this time will not be accepted.  Speaking slots will be given on a first-come-first-served basis.  Individuals who will be speaking will receive a confirmation e-mail. District saddened by passing of Board of Education Member, Erin McDonald District saddened by passing of Board of Education Member, Erin McDonald: With heavy hearts, the North Syracuse Central School District would like to inform the community of the passing of Erin McDonald, a member of the NSCSD Board of Education. Erin passed away on February 18, 2021. Ms. McDonald was a graduate of the NSCSD, and served on the Board of Education from July 1, 2017 to the present. During her tenure on the Board, she served as a member of the Board of Education Policy and Legislative Committees, and sat on various administrative interview committees.  Erin was also a member of the Central New York School Boards Association and the New York State School Boards Association. She was a retired public educator from the Pflugerville (Texas) Independent School District and a substitute teacher at Henninger High School. ...
