Cicero Elementary School Kindergarteners Celebrate Reading:
This week kindergarten students at Cicero Elementary School celebrated their reading success with a grade-level “Nursery Rhyme Celebration” at the school.
Students in Mrs. Radecki ’s, Mrs. Koehler ’s, Mrs. Norris ’s, Mrs. Rosen ’s and Mrs. Smith 's classes enthusiastically demonstrated their mastery of nursery rhymes by "acting out" different rhymes to other kindergarten classes.
Mrs. Radecki's students performed "Little Miss Muffett" while wearing spider hats or "eating" their curds and whey and "Little Boy Blue" donning cow and sheep masks that the students had made.

Local Lawmaker Visits Newly Renovated Karl W. Saile Bear Road Elementary School:
On Monday, September 26, New York State Assemblyman Al Stirpe was invited to a special tour of the Karl W. Saile Bear Road Elementary School to get a firsthand look at the newly renovated building and grounds. North Syracuse Central School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dan Bowles and Associate Superintendent for Business Services Don Keegan asked the lawmaker to visit the school to see the enhancements made possible as a direct result of the lawmaker’s support.
Assemblyman Stirpe, a long-time educational advocate, was instrumental in the District’s procurement of a State and Municipal (SAM) grant used to purchase new furniture and install the school’s playground.

October 2024: North Syracuse Central School District students will be getting cozy for a cause on Friday, November 15 as schools take part in Paige's Pajamarama. Paige’s Pajamarama is a charity event allowing students to wear their pajamas to school when making a donation to Paige's Butterfly Run, Inc., an organization which supports children with pediatric cancer at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital.

Our Karl W. Saile Bear Road Elementary staff are GOLDEN! Here they are in the school's gorgeous new library sporting their golden support their school family. Principal Cambs shared these photos saying, "In September We Wear Gold for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month to Honor Luna Gasowski - the daughter of our wonderful 1st grade teacher, Laura Gasowski."

North Syracuse Early Education Program Staff Takes Part in Community Event:
On Saturday, September 17, the TRAID on the Trails event was held at the Syracuse Inner Harbor Creekwalk to promote awareness of inclusive fitness recreation opportunities in Onondaga County. The event, which is sponsored by the Golisano Center for Special Needs at Upstate Medical University, is a fun, family event allowing participants to try out various adaptive physical fitness opportunities.
TRAID stands for Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities. CNS Students Work Together to Create Awareness for Suicide Prevention:
Students in Pam Woznica’s School Age Education Experience class are helping get the word out about suicide awareness as part of their course. Mrs. Woznica says that one of the requirements for the course is for the students to work together to create meaningful, engaging bulletin boards throughout school’s hallways. With the month of September being Suicide Awareness Month, the class focused their work on creating boards around that theme.
For the project, each student had to first conceptualize and design a bulletin board on paper. Their designs were posted around the classroom for students to consider and vote upon. Each student was given three votes and the board with the most votes was selected to be created in the hallway.

District Employee Tracks Down Rightful Owner of Long-Lost Treasured Token:

For the first time in more than three decades, Erin Horner, a 1986 graduate of Cicero High School, was able to slide her high school class ring onto her finger, thanks to the dedicated detective work of a soon-to-be NSCSD retiree. Erin, who was a part of the school’s marching band and colorguard, had ordered the class ring as a memento of her beloved high school activities. At some point after school, Erin lost the ring but could never pinpoint where it could have gone.

4th Grade Olympics at Allen Road Elementary School:
Allen Road Elementary School's special area 4th grade teachers (Art- MeganPaye, Music-Kristina Vernyi, Library-Nicole Benson, Physical Education-Cody Casalletta and Stephen Mirizio) came together this spring to involve students in a unique collaboration. All four teachers taught individual lessons about the Olympic games and then created and acted out their own games.
In library, the students researched past Olympic athletes.
In art, the students created a mural of Olympic rings with their favorite sports (every student of all 3 classes put their own drawing.
In music, the students learned to sing using solfege syllables and play on the bells the Olympic song.
In physical education, teachers came up with games where classes competed against each other.

ARE Third Grade Collaboration:
Third grade students at Allen Road Elementary School recently took part in a collaborative project for their art and music classes. During their art classes, the students made usable rainsticks and during their music classes, they learned how do perform a raindance. Once the students in-class lessons were complete, the classes got together and performed in front of other grades. Music teacher Kristina Vernyi says, "We also explained what the Rainsticks and the Raindance were used for by tribes. Students also had an opportunity to create their own tribal dance in groups and display it for each other. It was a really great learning experience and a lot of fun!"

NSEEP Holds Family Fun Festival:
On Saturday, June 4, family and friends of the North Syracuse Early Education Program gathered together at the school's Family Fun Festival. The event was put on by the PTO and had something fun for everyone. PTO member Stacey Tracy shared event pictures and told that there were food and ice cream trucks, the Book Van Go was there and there were lots of water activities to keep cool on the warm day. The event had face painting and balloon characters too. North Syracuse police and fire department personnel came and the kids were able to be finger printed for their families. Stacey said, "It was a great event and was well attended by many students and families and we had many teachers volunteer!"

Juneteenth Holiday Marks Important Part of US History:
On June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, making Juneteenth a federal holiday in the United States. Juneteenth—June 19, 1865—was the day Union soldiers enforced President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation freeing all remaining slaves in Texas. Originating in Galveston, Texas, Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and it is observed as a celebration of African-American culture.
Juneteenth has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States. The North Syracuse Central School District is proud to join in this celebration of US History.

Allen Road Elementary School Kindergarten Class Goes WILD:
Allen Road Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher Kathy Conese shared pictures of her students' June 3 field trip to the Wild Animal Park in Chittenango. She says that it was their first field trip in 3 years and it was a huge success! Kathy said, "The weather was perfect, the animals were playful and the little ones were all able to see the animals they had researched! It was truly a magical day of fun and learning!"

Breakfast Club Returns to Roxboro Road Elementary School:
Roxboro Road Elementary School students and their families have been celebrating great beginnings this spring as their school’s breakfast club made its return. Through the program, separate grade levels of students and their family members are invited to a breakfast and books celebration.
Parents/Guardians and children are invited to eat breakfast and hear a guest reader share a story. Each child then receives a copy of the shared book for their own personal library! The breakfast meals and books are paid for through a school improvement grant and the event is coordinated by the school’s AIS Team of Traci Buffa, Mike Green, Sandi Thorne, Laura Wanless and Margie Rush. Middle School Students Soar in CNY MOST Rocket Team Challenge:
On Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Syracuse University Skytop, 6 teams representing Gillette Road Middle and Roxboro Road Middle competed in an out of this world experience: the CNY MOST Rocket Team Challenge. Teams of students worked together to assemble, paint and ultimately launch rockets.
Teams were scored based on subject knowledge, apogee calculation/precision, rocket aesthetics, flight performance, and “eggstronaut” recovery/experience. Two teams from the NSCSD won awards in the competition. In the junior division, Team “ It Isn’t Rocket Science” took third place, and Team “ M.U.S.T.A.R.D.” took fourth place. Congratulations to all of the District’s budding astronauts!

Education Foundation Awards Grants to NSCSD Teachers:
The North Syracuse Education Foundation (NSEF) is proud to announce their 2022-2023 grant award winners. Eight North Syracuse Central School District educators were recognized at the May 23 Board of Education Meeting for receiving grants from the North Syracuse Education Foundation (NSEF) in their 2022 Grant Award’s Program. NSEF resources support quality education through creative opportunities, and innovative/imaginative approaches.
Since 2002 the NSEF has funded more than $200,000 in grant programs for math, literacy, science, foreign language and the arts.

Lakeshore Road Elementary Holds Science and Career Night:
Students at Lakeshore Road Elementary School had the chance to show off their skills at their school's recent science fair and career night. Principal Chmielewski shared some photos from the June 9 event, which allowed parents and families members to come in and see their students work. The school's cafeteria was filled with interesting and creative exhibits showcasing a variety of student interests.

USDA Free Meal Program Ending - What This Means for NSCSD Families:
Throughout the pandemic, nutritious school meals have contributed to student achievement, supported America’s families and provided a critical safety net during economic hardships. Thanks to federal child nutrition waivers, all students, regardless of income, have had access to free meals during the pandemic. Unfortunately, the federal waivers expire on June 30, 2022 and Congress and the USDA have opted to not continue child nutrition waivers. This means that districts will no longer be able to provide free meals for all students for the 2022-2023 school year.

Families must fill out free and reduced meal price applications for the 2022-2023 school year and meet income qualifications in order to receive free ...

Roxboro Road Elementary PTG Holds Fun Fair and Raises Funds for Inclusive Playground:
On Saturday, June 4, the Roxboro Road Elementary School Community came out in full force for Roxie's Fun Fair. The carnival event featured a dunk tank, crafters, vendors and food trucks, all to help raise money for the school's new inclusive playground. Thanks to great participation, more than $6,000 was raised by the event. Many thanks to all who participated!
