Mental Health Professionals Help Students Explore Overall Wellness:
Kristen Stanton is the District-wide School-Based Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator for the North Syracuse Central School District. Along with a team of mental health professionals throughout the District, Kristen has been working to provide wellness activities for all students.
For the month of January, the team set a theme of “Pathway to Wellness” which explores the six areas of wellness: environmental, emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual. Kristen said, “Sometimes when people think of wellness, they think only of physical health but overall wellness is so much more.” A Wheel of Wellness helps student see the six different areas of wellness.

Wall of Distinction Ceremony Rescheduled for May 13:
The North Syracuse Central School District has scheduled a revised date for its 2022 Wall of Distinction Induction ceremony. The ceremony will now take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 13 at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. This year’s inductees will be announced after March 1. Technology Education Students Learn Robotics:
Students in Lynn Zajac’s 7 th Grade Technology Education classes at Roxboro Road Middle School have four major projects during their half-year course at the school. Technology Education courses have long been known for providing students the opportunity to BUILD things. For their current assignment though, students in Lynn’s class are being graded on how well they DEMOLISH structures.
Lynn’s students are working on the second part of a unit on robotics, their final one in their Technology Education course. More Than 100 C-NS Students Receive Northstar PRIDE Awards:
On Tuesday, January 18, more than 100 Cicero-North Syracuse High School students were recognized with Northstar PRIDE awards. Students are selected for recognition by teachers when they model the school’s five core values: Personal Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, Discipline and Engagement. Students can be recognized in more than one category and many of the January students were selected in multiple areas.

C-NS Vocal Jazz Ensemble Gives Holiday Performance:
During the holidays, The Cicero-North Syracuse High School Vocal Jazz ensemble performed at The Fireside Inn for “Making Spirits Bright” to benefit the Rescue Mission of CNY and the Salvation Army. This is the second year the Vocal Jazz has been asked to participate.
The fundraiser started as an idea that musician Letizia Pinkel had to bring musicians and community members together for a good cause. The Christmas party featured many of Central New York’s most notable musicians and all of the proceeds went to The Rescue Mission just in time for the Holidays.
The event was free but all those attending were asked to bring a donation of comfort and joy. Some items that the Rescue Mission collected were mittens, hats, socks and blankets. ...

The Star Shop at Cicero-North Syracuse High School has a limited supply of C-NS socks on sale. To make an order, click here to fill out the online form then call 315 218-4150 to process the sale.
For those outside of NSCSD buildings who make a purchase, arrangements can be made to pick up your socks at C-NS at the security office. For staff in other buildings, the socks can be sent through the interoffice mail.

Roxboro Road Elementary Alumni Give Back to Community they Love:
Jessica Nabewaniec , a Family Engagement Specialist for the NSCSD at Roxboro Road Elementary School , shared photos of the school's hat and mitten hand-out for students. Jessica shares that Dominick and Daniel Ciciarelli , alumni of Roxboro Road Elementary School, generously donated hundreds of hats and mittens for students at the school.
Daniel Ciciarelli is pictured as he prepares to drop off the donations at Roxboro Road Elementary School. Daniel is a 2011 graduate of C-NS and was the first graduate of the District to receive three Career and Technical Education (CTE) Endorsements on his high school diploma. C-NS Entrepreneurship Students Treated to Luncheon Lesson:
Prior to the holiday recess, students in Linda Dwyer and Rick Mancabelli 's Entrepreneurship classes at Cicero-North Syracuse High School stepped outside of the classroom and took a trip to Skaneateles to learn directly from a local trail-blazer in their field of interest.
Entrepreneurship classes at C-NS are designed for students interested in learning about creating their own business opportunities. Board of Education Approves Revised Calendar:
The North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education approved a revised 2021-2022 academic calendar at their January 3 meeting. The revised calendar, which is available by clicking here, includes the following revisions:
January 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2022 are no longer Regents Exam dates. These dates are now normal instructional days for C-NS High School.
April 6, 2022 will now be a half-day for all Pre-K – 12 students
May 20, 2022 will now be a half-day instead of May 13, 2022 for all Pre-K – 12 students

Teacher and Teaching Assistant Unions Join Forces to Spread Holiday Joy:
For more than 20 years, staff in the North Syracuse Central School District have worked hard to ensure that all families in the District have food on hand to get them through the holiday recess. In 1999, the Teaching Assistant Unit had a food drive and put together eight food baskets for students’ families. Since that time, the community’s need has increased but fortunately, so has the District’s generosity and staff willingness to help.
Mindy Bristol is President of The North Syracuse Teaching Assistant Association (NSTAA) for the NSCSD and has been involved with the food drive since it began. Mindy has watched the need grow from just eight baskets that first year to overflowing bags for 152 families this year.

C-NS Interior Design Students Involved in “Sweet” Home Construction Activity:
Students in Pam Woznica's Interior Design class at Cicero-North Syracuse High School have applied their design skills in a unique…and very appropriate way this holiday season.
As part of their regular course curriculum, students are tasked with learning about different types of house styles and then choosing one to create a three-dimensional model. This year, Woznica thought it would be fun to have her students work in a new medium– gingerbread. Each student had to create an electronic mood board for their planning purposes and were then given the materials to bring their concept to life. Woznica said, “We have 8 different house styles under construction and students have all been given the same materials and ingredients to start off with.”

On Monday, December 6, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School (C-NS) theater team of creative directors involved with the ‘Cicero Area Student Theater’ (CAST) program and the high school’s production of an original musical in the midst of a pandemic, was honored by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) as Champions of Change . Voters Approve Structured for Success! Capital Project:
North Syracuse Central School District voters have approved the three separate propositions that make up the Structured for Success initiative.
Proposition #1 includes renovations to C-NS High School, Lakeshore Road Elementary, Cicero Elementary and Smith Road Elementary. The $64.96 million project will not increase taxes for District residents. Decades-old learning spaces and systems that are long past their useful life will be renovated or upgraded. Proposition #1 was approved (89% support) with 1,279 yes votes and 157 no votes.

C-NS Aviation and Aerospace Students Explore Opportunities at C&S Companies:
On Friday, December 3, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Career Center and Technology Department teamed up to bring the school’s Aviation and Aerospace class to a local engineering firm to learn directly from experts in the field. The group of about 20 C-NS students traveled to C & S Companies, an engineering, architecture, planning, environmental, and construction services organization. While at C & S Companies, students had the opportunity to hear from speakers about aviation planning, aviation engineering and drone technology and were even paid a visit from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Allen Road Elementary School Students Make Thanksgiving Bags for Rescue Mission:
Throughout the month of November, students at Allen Road Elementary School have been involved in a school-wide project for a great cause. Students used some class time to decorate more than 100 brown paper bags, which will now be given to the Rescue Mission. On Thanksgiving morning, the bags will be filled by Rescue Mission volunteers and then delivered by volunteer drivers. The bags are provided to community members in need including homeless, homebound, disabled and elderly who don’t have the money to afford a meal or don’t have family to eat with on the holiday.

C-NS Principal's Cabinet Honored with "Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy" Award:
On Monday, November 15, The Cicero-North Syracuse High School Principal's Cabinet was honored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Central New York Chapter with the organization's "Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy" Award.
The C-NS Principal's Cabinet, led by teacher Melissa Palmisano (pictured above left), is made up of 30-40 students recommended for the group because of their leadership skills. During the school year, the group meets with C-NS Executive Principal Jamie Sullivan (pictured above right) and the school administrative team on a regular basis to discuss how they can work together to best benefit the greater school community.

District Partnerships Raise Money for Paige's Pajamarama:

For the second consecutive year, the North Syracuse and Liverpool school districts renewed their friendly battle to be named top supporter of Paige’s Butterfly Run, Inc. and Paige’s Pajamarama.
Paige’s Pajamarama is a charity event allowing students to wear their pajamas to school when making a donation to Paige's Butterfly Run, Inc., an organization which supports children with pediatric cancer at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital.
