Cicero Elementary Students and Families Hike Bald Mountain Cicero Elementary Students and Families Hike Bald Mountain: Cicero Elementary School third grade students have participated in an annual tradition of hiking Bald Mountain each year since 1994, when Mr. Bigford and Mr. Stimson started this outdoor adventure. Since then, over 1,400 students have trekked up to the Rondaxe fire tower to enjoy nature and the beautiful views of the Adirondack park. On the last weekend in April, more than 130 3rd and 4th grade students and family members made it to the summit over the course of 2 gorgeous days. Mr. Bailey and Mr. Cupoli are looking forward to taking our next group of students in the Fall!

NSEEP Students and Families Enjoy Togetherness NSEEP Students and Families Enjoy Togetherness: North Syracuse Education Program teacher Kate DeBottis was excited to share photos from her students’ “Tea for Two to Celebrate You” Mother’s Day event this past week. Roxboro Road Middle School Students Have “Out of World” Experience Roxboro Road Middle School Students Have “Out of World” Experience: This past week, 5 th grade students at Roxboro Road Middle School had a unique opportunity to take part in an “out of this world” experience as part of their school day. On May 2 and 3, RRMS students spent their regular science class period in a planetarium right at school.  Many thanks to the following teachers for having their students participate: Nicole Finger , Danielle DiGiavanni (McChrohan) , Trisha Nelson , and Mike Thompson . Gillette Road Middle School Students Take Top Honors in CNY Innovation Challenge Gillette Road Middle School Students Take Top Honors in CNY Innovation Challenge: Earlier this month, a team of 7 th grade students from Gillette Road Middle School participated in the CNY Innovation Challenge and walked away with the top prize for their efforts. The event asks students to come up with creative solutions that can be developed into marketable products. Students design and develop their product, create a marketing plan and pitch the idea to a panel of judges. This year’s CNY Innovation Challenge was held at the Maker Faire Syracuse at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College on April 2. KWS Bear Road Elementary Students Celebrate Reading Success KWS Bear Road Elementary Students Celebrate Reading Success: Students at KWS Bear Road Elementary School have spent much of the last week and a half engrossed in reading in order to meet a challenge set by their school principal Ms. Cambs, reading teacher Mrs. Parker and the Bear Road Literacy Committee. The school, which consists only of kindergarten, first and second grades due to the ongoing construction, had the goal of reading 250 books. Parents were asked to complete a paper strip for each book read at home with their child and the strips of paper were then brought back to the classroom and made into a chain. The chain is on display at school. Today, the students were brought to the school’s library by grade level where they learned that they not only exceeded the goal, they more than doubled it! ...
NSCSD Partnering With Contact Community Services for Mental Wellness & Suicide Prevention NSCSD Partnering With Contact Community Services for Mental Wellness & Suicide Prevention: Suicide Safety in Schools (SSIS), a mental health education program through Contact Community Services, provides crisis management and suicide safety training to Onondaga County school communities including students, parents, teachers, school support staff and district administration using evidence-based practices, protocols and trainings.   Contact’s SSIS Mental Health Educators are currently piloting the SSIS program in the North Syracuse Central School District where they have provided teen mental health training during physical education classes to over 3,000 students in grades 8-12. Recently, over 500 junior and senior high school students participated in Pathways to Wellness, an educational mental awareness activity using the Six Dimensions of Wellness model. Students ...
Cicero-North Syracuse High School Goes Blue For Kids Cicero-North Syracuse High School Goes Blue For Kids: In honor of the month of April being Child Abuse Prevention Month, students at Cicero-North Syracuse High School are helping support the cause through the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center’s “Go Blue 4 Kids” campaign. Twice this month, different groups of C-NS students have taken time to “plant” blue pinwheels in front of the school to show their support. On Monday, April 4, members of the school’s Honor Society gathered to plant their pinwheels and a campaign sign and on Friday, April 22, students in Karin Hurry’s class added their contributions. The pinwheels were gifted to the school in honor of two separate generous, anonymous donations to the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center. C-NS Students Take Part in OCMEA All-County Jazz Festival C-NS Students Take Part in OCMEA All-County Jazz Festival: The Onondaga County Music Educators Association presented the 2022 All-County Jazz Festival at Marcellus High School on Saturday, April 2. The program consisted of the Junior High Jazz Ensemble , Senior High Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Senior High Jazz Ensemble .  Cicero-North Syracuse High School had nine students audition for and get accepted into the two senior high groups.    Performing and soloing in the Vocal jazz Ensemble were seniors Katie Wilhite and Lily Thorne, and sophomores Ava Tyler and Addison Romano.  Junior Ryan Hill performed in the tenor section while sophomore Aidan Hanas played upright bass in the rhythm section for the vocal jazz group and also gave a solo performance.     ...

Help NSEEP Throw some Shade, as They Play to Learn!!: Last summer, the North Syracuse Early Education Program launched its re-envisioned and renovated playground serving the program’s 240 students, as well as the larger community in Onondaga County, New York. This inclusive, fully accessible playground was carefully designed around the needs of children with a myriad of developmental disabilities and those of typically developing children. The school's students have spent many happy hours at the playground during the school day and many children and their families have enjoyed it and at other times, as it is open to the public. The NSEEP is hoping to raise funds to add shade structures to the beautiful 'still new' playground and has started a GoFundMe page for the cause. Click here to learn more about the project ...

C-NS Students Participate in First Drone Soccer Showcase C-NS Students Participate in First Drone Soccer Showcase: The Cicero-North Syracuse High School Robotics Club recently participated in New York’s first U.S. Drone Soccer Championship Showcase. On Sunday, April 3, the students, along with their C-NS instructor, Martin Miner, traveled to SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica for the event.   The showcase gave students the opportunity to demonstrate how Drone Soccer is played and to participate in some friendly competition with the CNY Drone organization and SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Student Technology Club.   Only one player on each team – the “striker” – can score by flying his or her drone through the circular goal post placed approximately 3 yards above ground. Gillette Road Students Head Off to College Gillette Road Students Head Off to College: Fifteen of Dom Liccione’s flute students from Gillette Road Middle School recently participated in Onondaga Community College’s Day of Flute and Percussion. On Wednesday March 30, the students spent the day at the school taking part in workshops and being guided through a music filled day focused on the flute and percussion instruments by OCC instructors Martha Grener (flute) and Rob Bridge (percussion). For the first session of the day, students were treated to a mini-concert put on by their instructors. Next the students split into groups by instruments with the Gillette Road flute students re-introduced to warm up flute techniques by Ms. Grener. C-NS Career for Health & Human Service Students Research Timely Topics C-NS Career for Health & Human Service Students Research Timely Topics: Students in Pam Woznica’s Career for Health & Human Service class at Cicero-North Syracuse High School recently researched and presented on some very important and timely issues. The students, in grades 10-12, were required to pick a topic related to counseling and mental health services and to research and present the topic to their classmates.   Woznica shared this photo of her students Annalisa Emmi, Jenna Pickard, Lauren Roberts and Holly Costello, who did their presentation on mental health. She said, “With suicide and mental health always being a top concern with students and with the topic being in the news due to the tragic local situation, I thought it important to show that our students are researching the topic.” ...
