Recruiting
Near the end of each season, we will hold a meeting for all of our senior student/athletes who are interested in trying to compete at the collegiate level. We will discuss what the recruiting process is all about, how it works and what to expect. It is important that each student/athlete keep all of their doors open and take the time to explore each and every opportunity that comes along, until they feel strongly that they have made the right decision for themselves academically, athletically and socially.
The following is how we will handle the recruiting months:
1. College coaches will call me to set up a time to visit our school. The times that these recruiters will be allowed to come in will be between 2:00 and 3:00pm. Sometimes they have athletes of ours they already know about and want to meet with. Other times they don’t know about any of our seniors and simply ask me to get any senior who is interested in playing college football to attend the meeting.
2. We will give a list of our seniors who are interested in competing at the college level to Ellie Peavey who is in charge of our Career Center.
3. We will contact Ellie to tell her when a recruiter is coming in. I will then email all the seniors to let them know who is coming in and when.
4. We will post a list of the colleges and dates that they will be visiting our school in our football display case across from the boys PE office.
5. Meetings with recruiters will be held in the Career Center located on the first floor next to the elevator (all seniors are encouraged to attend every meeting w/ each school that comes in).
6. Athletes should get the coach's e-mail address at the meeting so we can e-mail their film to them. They should also bring in a copy of their unofficial transcript to give to the recruiters that come in (if you or I haven't already sent this info & film to them previously).
7. During our meeting with the seniors, we tell them to make it a point to see Ellie in the Career Center if they didn’t do this already. Ellie can show them how to use her computer programs to research any school in the country from all levels! We tell them to come up with a list of schools that they have an interest in (this should’ve been done in the spring of their junior year).
8. We now have the capability to make hi-lite films for our players with their imput on play selection. We will then e-mail the film to the player (as well as to college contacts that I have) so both the player & myself can e-mail it out to the colleges they are interested in attending.
9. We also announce to our athletes that there is a college recruitment fair they should attend. This fair has a number of schools from various levels for athletes to speak to and get information on. It is the first Sunday of December at Henninger High School from 4-7pm. They should bring transcripts to give to the schools they are interested in and get coach's e-mail address's so we can e-mail their film to them (again, if we haven't already).
10. I will be glad to write a letter of recomm. for any of our student/athletes who have earned it.
11. I will also be willing to make personal phone calls and e-mails to college coaches on behalf of any of our student/athletes who I feel comfortable recommending.
