The North Syracuse Central School District has a Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program, which is funded by New York State. Through the program, eligible children can receive a pre-kindergarten education at participating sites.
Registration dates are posted on the district's website each year. Eligible children must live in the North Syracuse Central School District and must be four years old on or before December 1st of the school year.
The North Syracuse Central School District is accepting registrations for its Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program. Registration takes place during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.) at the Jerome F. Melvin Administrative Office Building (5355 West Taft Road) in North Syracuse.
In order to register your child in the UPK program, you will need to bring the following documents with you:
1. Proof of residency (National Grid, OCWA or home phone bill, signed lease, mortgage statement),
2. Valid proof of birth,
3. Immunization records,
4. An updated physical, and
5. Parent identification.
The program, which is funded by a state grant and subject to the passage of the New York State Budget, is free to families who complete a registration packet. Applicants will be selected using a lottery system and children will be enrolled in a UPK program at one of three provider sites:
Learn as You Grow – 5684 South Bay Road in Cicero;
Learn as You Grow – 8381 Elta Drive in Cicero; OR
Northminster Nursery School – 7444 Buckley Road in North Syracuse.
The programs at Learn As You Grow are half-day sessions – either in the morning (9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.) or the afternoon (12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.) – five days a week, and will follow the North Syracuse Central School District school calendar. The program at Northminster Nursery School is a half-day session – either in the morning (9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.) or the afternoon (12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.) – five days a week, and will follow the North Syracuse Central School District. For further information regarding UPK at Northminster Nursery School, please contact Cindy Fowler at 458-2669.
Due to a lack of State funding, transportation for the UPK program will be limited. Specific information will be provided after registration.
Eligible children must live in the North Syracuse Central School District and be four years old on or before December 1, 2016. Classes will not be picked until July and letters will go out to parents on or before July 31. If you have any questions, please call Mary Anne Gorski at 218-2147.
