Cleaning For Health - What is it?

Cleaning for Health reflects a global value, we assume the responsibility for ourselves as well as others. To provide such cleaning, our staff must provide a “quality cleaning performance.” That performance removes impurities from the environment, leaves behind minimum cleaning residue, and in no way jeopardizes the health and safety of its occupants.

How Clean is Clean?

Cleaning is the process of removing impurities from the environment and putting them in their proper place. Cleaning occurs after the impurities have entered the environment; Identifying, capturing, containing, removing and disposing of the impurities completes the cleaning process. Cleaning is not diluting impurities by dispersing them over a larger area, allowing them to remain, cleaning is removing them.

Guidelines and Benefits of Cleaning for Health:

  • Provide for the safety of all building occupants before, during and after the cleaning operations
  • Clean for health first and appearance second
  • Maximize the extraction of impurities from the building
  • Minimize chemical, particle and moisture residue
  • Minimize occupant exposure to contaminants, cleaning chemicals and cleaning residue
  • Dispose of cleaning waste properly
  • Annual refresher training for cleaning staff

Measuring our Success

  • The District utilizes periodic inspections to evaluate the quality of our workmanship and efficacy of our products. We utilize a widely recognized industry standard to evaluate our facilities cleanliness, APPA Standard of Clean https://spaces4learning.com/articles/2018/10/01/cleanliness.aspx
  • Additionally the District has invested in an ATP Monitoring device (https://www.hygiena.com/infection-control.html), a technology hospitals utilize to confirm proper sanitation of surfaces. This device is deployed randomly as part of our regular inspection process.

Recent Changes to better serve our students and staff

  • Each building will have a Total 360 electrostatic disinfection machine to quickly react to any areas of concern.
  • K-2 classrooms, as well as, health offices and OT/PT rooms have Clarion25 floor wax with microban technology. This reduces the spread of bacteria and other germs.
  • All custodians will be using new mopping systems that keep the cleaning solution and dirty water separate, creating a healthier more efficient process.
  • All district paper towel dispensers will be replaced with touchless mechanical dispensers.
  • HVAC filters have been upgraded to a higher MERV rating per State guidance.
  • In addition to our normal nightly cleaning for health protocols we have increased the frequencies of disinfecting the high traffic, high touch areas during the school day.
  • Where feasible, staff will have access to additional cleaning and disinfecting supplies to meet the demands of new cleaning protocols.
  • Staff and students will have supervised access to hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes in areas where access to sinks is not practical.
