CNS Vocal Jazz performs at WCNY Studios:
On Tuesday, October 29, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble gave a special performance at WCNY Studios in downtown Syracuse. The group, directed by CNS Chorus Teacher Danielle Rausa, was invited to perform as part of Mrs. Rausa’s recognition as the WCNY Classic FM Music Educator Award honoree for September 2024. The Classic FM Music Educator Award was established in 2022 to recognize outstanding teachers across the region.

Cicero-North Syracuse High School student leaders sworn In by New York State Supreme Court Justice:
On Tuesday, October 8, four members of Cicero-North Syracuse High School's Student Government Executive Board experienced a day of education and leadership during a special ceremony at the Onondaga County Courthouse. Grace Villnave and Oneisha Coakley, who serve as co-presidents, along with Ethan Meives, co-secretary, and Ethan Turner, treasurer, were formally sworn in by New York State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Karalunas. They were joined by their advisor, teacher Melissa Palmisano, who works with the executive board.

NSCSD Board of Education approves 2025-26 budget development calendar:
The North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education approved a 2025-26 budget development calendar at their October 7 meeting. The school budget vote and board member election has been set for Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The public hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

CNS High School Senior Kevin Toms has announced that his annual bottle and can drive will take place on October 26-27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Griffin's Guardians Office parking lot at 8116 Brewerton Road in Cicero.
The local non-profit 501©3 Griffin’s Guardians was founded in 2014 by Erin and Adam Engle, the parents of Griffin Engle, who passed away at age 7 from a rare form of brain cancer. Griffin’s Guardians provides support and financial assistance to children battling cancer in over 17 counties in Central New York. Schools participate in Chalk the Walk:
In honor of September being Suicide Prevention month, The Onondaga County Suicide Prevention Coalition (OCSPC,) recently hosted “Chalk the Walk” from September 23 through 27. Several schools in the North Syracuse Central School District took part in the event. During the activity students were encouraged to get outside and chalk the sidewalks with messages of hope, inspiration, and resilience to shine a light on mental wellness and suicide prevention.

District ends practice of publishing staff emails:
Cyber security for school districts is becoming an increasing concern as cyber attacks increase across the country. In order to protect North Syracuse Central School District staff and resources, we are transitioning to the removal of staff email addresses and directory information being published on our webpages. As of October 15, 2024, we have removed the staff email listing.
Email is still an important form of communication, and we are not limiting the use of email between school and home. We are only changing the practice of publishing staff email addresses in a way that allows for easy scraping by web bots. This change is driven by increasing concerns around phishing campaigns, which often result from the scraping of email addresses posted publicly online. Many ...

CNS Music Teacher Danielle Rausa is WCNY Classic FM September Educator of the Month:
Congratulations to Cicero-North Syracuse High School Music Teacher Danielle Rausa for being selected as the WCNY Classic FM Educator of the Month for September. The Classic FM Music Educator Award was established in 2022 to recognize outstanding teachers across the region.
Awardees are selected by a committee of four individuals who are active in the arts community, who review the nominations. Danielle was nominated by four individuals – two parents, a colleague and a student. Diane Jones, the program manager for WCNY Classic FM shares that Danielle’s “glowing recommendations made the decision to honor her an easy one.”

District proud to unveil refreshed CNS logo!:
The North Syracuse Central School District (NSCSD) is excited to introduce an updated logo for Cicero-North Syracuse High School (CNS). With a number of current and upcoming building projects underway, district leaders felt it was the perfect time to update the school’s branding. The design was developed with input from district and building stakeholders. It was approved by the Board of Education during its meeting on Sept. 9. The goal was to modernize the school logo while still maintaining traditional elements like the star and district colors.

Welcome Interim Superintendent of Schools Michael A. Schiedo!:
August 28, 2024: The North Syracuse Central School District officially welcomes Michael A. Schiedo to the position of Interim Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Schiedo was appointed by the Board of Education at their August 5 meeting. He will serve as Interim Superintendent while the Board continues their search for a permanent replacement. Board of Education President Michael A. Mirizio discussed the Board's selection of Mr. Schiedo and the ongoing search process in his July 25 letter to the community .

UPDATE October 11, 2024: Letter from Board of Education President with search update - The North Syracuse Board of Education is approximately halfway through the process for finding our next superintendent of schools. Our search consultant, Dr. Cook from OCM BOCES, has completed all of the focus groups that gathered more specific information from various stakeholder groups, which included students, families and various combinations of staff. The feedback from the groups has been delivered to the BOE and will be used to help formulate questions and provide the board valuable information regarding what is most important to our community as we look for our next leader. North Syracuse Central School District Board President announces Superintendent of Schools’ retirement:
June 18, 2024: North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education President Paul Farfaglia announced today that Superintendent of Schools Daniel D. Bowles will be retiring effective August 27, 2024. The Board of Education accepted the superintendent’s retirement letter at its June 17 meeting.
Superintendent Bowles announced his plans to district staff in an email saying “The past five years have been some of the best of my life. They have also been some of the most challenging as we worked together to navigate a global pandemic and the lasting repercussions we never could have anticipated. Despite the challenges though, we came together as a district and community and created a Strategic Plan that I truly believe moves the school community forward.”
